Dues to the open conflict between Serbian military and police with the Kosovar Albanians, in 1998/99, over 10,000 people were killed and an estimated 1.5 million people were expelled from their homes. In addition houses, factories and businesses were burned and livestock, orchards and machinery were totally destroyed.
Although it has been 13 years, with most houses re-built as well as many small businesses back in operation, most of the major factories have remained desolate. The unemployment rate has dropped only slightly but still stands at a staggering 75%. Many of the men have to secure work outside of the country in order to provide for their families. Those left behind are suffering through a poverty unknown to many.

How We Help
Please Pass the Bread is providing support for a family church a long-time missionary friend is a part of. Jacqueline has been serving in this country for the last 13 years. She firmly believes the gospel is the answer and continues to labor in sharing God’s word and love to the people of Kosovo who are suffering greatly. Recently, she has seen God’s hand miraculously opening doors that were once closed due to communism.
Please Pass The Bread is providing food for the hungry while Jacqueline and the church are reaching out to provide the much needed spiritual food. Those whom Please Pass The Bread is feeding are members of this church who live in destitution, who have children in prison, who are severely handicapped, and those who are referred to the program by local authorities.
