Haiti

Overview

Since the devastating earthquake in January of 2010, the children in Haiti have remained in a most vulnerable condition. With an estimated 2 million children affected, many were left orphaned or badly injured.

In a nation that was already suffering in extreme conditions of poverty, this devastation in recent years has only compounded the problem. And now, with the rest of the world in upheaval, and Haiti no longer attracting media attention, conditions are worsening. Where the most basic of essentials and services were barely existent, now, what only remains is a loss of hope that surviving another day is possible.

Most recently, government corruption and unrest within it’s own borders, and the collapsing world economy, have created an even more critical condition. Children make up almost half of Haiti’s population and are now at the greatest risk ever.

In the areas where Please Pass the Bread operates the danger is extremely high, as increased gang activity has overwhelmed communities, resulting in fear of life and safety. Our own ministry partners have acquired police escorts just to travel safely to and from the schools and church in which they oversee. Further more, and still profoundly resident, are the familiar uncertainties associated with life in the slums. The health risks are immeasurable and life tragedy at its highest.

How We Help

In support of efforts making a positive difference through education and caring for the needs of the most impoverished children, Please Pass the Bread has come along side ministries to administer the love of God through provision and life purpose.
Educating and feeding children who are hungry, and teaching them about Jesus, is setting the children in our care on a path, that we pray, someday, will lead them to a life more abundant – where hope and dreams can become reality. And, where the provision and peace of God will forever reside, as they themselves begin to reach out to the lost world around them.
